2012 EMRA SCHEDULE

For those planning their vacation days for 2012:

Here is the OFFICIAL schedule for 2012:

April 14 (sat) Lime Rock - Time Trial
May 19/20 (sat/sun) Beaverun Race & Time Trial
JULY 2/3 (MON/TUE) WATKINS GLEN - Race & Time Trial NEW EVENT
July 28/29 (sat/sun) NJMP Lightning - Race & Time Trial
August 25 (sat) Lime Rock - Time Trial
Sept 8/9 (sat/sun) - NJMP Lightning - Race & Time Trial
Oct 20/21 (sat/sun) Pocono North - Race & Time Trial
November 10/11 (sat/sun) Summit Point - Race & Time Trial

Essentially the same schedule as 2011 with the MAJOR
addition of Watkins Glen on July 2/3
Cancellation of Lime Rock 7/21
Move of NJMP event from Labor Day to to 9/8
Move of Pocono to 10/20 21

If an event opens up somewhere in mid-June
we will attempt to get it.

Busy, July.
No events in June and October?

Personally, I don't think I will be able to attend to a weekday event.

Question(s) ???

For the 2 day events, will the Saturday "RACE" day include Time Trial's as they did most of this year ??

Im with GTI.. If we are stuck on racing on a week day just to get a day at the Glenn, then why not make it in June or October to spread it out. ( Three weekends in July are physically taxing on both participant and Car and wallet / budget ...)

Other wise looks like great times once again from EMRA

BTW what are the fees for the Glenn??? I have nothing to compare against like the other venues

FYI There are NO dates available on weekends at the Glen.

There are NO dates available in JUNE.

Sept they have 12-13th (wed/thu)

October they only have wed/thu dates available.

The date we picked is the best date available.

Travel Sunday event mon/tue travel July 4th.

Hopefully our entrants feel it is worth taking
off from work for this very special event.
EMRA is planning on creating a family friendly event
with wine-touring & Watkins Glen Park tours.

Also - All 2 day events will be 2 day racing & 2 day TT
(first day probably TT practice - second day the TT event)

Based on the input (not just from this forum) we will be attempting
to move the July TT event to something more suitable.

It is not easy to just create a schedule that is spread out
sufficiently for lack of interference with all of our events.

Every effort is being made to make the dates 30 days apart.

Keep the thoughts/comments coming - right now nothing is in stone.

I agree that its a very busy July and I'm not sure I'll be able to make it out to all of the events. I wouldn't mind dropping a July event for a weekend at Thunderbolt or Shenandoah in June or October to spread things out. Regardless, I'll absolutely try to take off for the Glen regardless of what days of the week it is.

As much as i would enjoy goin to Watkins Glen, I think 3 events in July is going to be very taxing on most.

Please note that the Sept date at NJMP
has been moved to Sept 8/9.
(Sept 1/2 was labor day weekend.)

Moving the July 21st date at Lime Rock
is being considered.

Will keep everyone updated when
there is news to tell.

Why 3 events at LRP again? What's wrong with a TT at Pocono East or another event at North, or Summit Point early in the year?

Answers to some scheduling questions:

Dates at tracks are not just "available" to take.
ie, no one can just "take" NJMP when we have it.

If dates are available, If they fit in our current schedule,
we will reserve them , then get contracts, give deposits, etc.

Dates are freed up only when the current contract holder
lets them go. Mostly clubs holding prior year dates don't
release them until they get a date they want somewhere else.

Pocono is not available prior to June because of continuing
paving & repairs. They then have the Pocono 400 on June 8-12th
Which would have been perfect for us (if available).
We asked if they could move their event but for some reason they refused.
(LOL)

As of now, other track dates are not available or are un-desirable
for EMRA. (NJMP Thunderbolt only available on August 12th.)

We have strived for a balanced schedule with a good gap in between
events (3+ weeks in between). The Lime Rock dates were NOT spaced well
last year, but it was take them or nothing, so we took them.
We are working with the track to move the 7/21 date to a better date there,
or a better venue/date if and when one becomes available.

Instead of having NJMP & Lime Rock back to back 8/25 & 9/1
we jumped at the opportunity to move the NJMP date a week later.
We only gave up our 9/1 date when 9/8 became available.

Watkins Glen - Mon/Tues not great? No weekends are available at all.
Other dates are Wed/Thu. The date we chose is in between a Sunday (for travel)
and a holiday (for travel home). We are going to create a festive event with
Wine trips and other activities making it a worthwhile vacation trip.

When a date does become available and it is near to a current date we have to
decide which one to take and which one to give up. We also take into account
attendance. Guess why we haven't tried to get Shanandoah in the spring?
(hint - several times - not many people showed up when we did)
Our people have said many times, what about the Glen? Well we got a date -
if you want to go back we need attendance. Please.

Hopefully this enlightens some as to the complexities of scheduling.
I do appreciate the input and if/when choices are available we will
present them.

Why not have another TT/race at Summit Point around March or April like we did in the past? Is it the close proximity of the organisers to LRP that dictates 3 events there? LRP is also our most expensive event.

LRP events are always well attended. I personally like the half day format of the LRP events.

Is it possible to schedule a meet at Monticello for mid June?

Monticello no longer rents track time to clubs.

I live in Monticello, wish it did.

As I said before, if ANY viable tracks
have time available in June we will
attempt to grab it.

I know it is a bit far for all the guys up north, but an event at VIR would have no problem selling out to max capacity.... or alternatively, Mid-Ohio.

thats a good question.. what is MAX for a time trial day ?? just curious

Vague answer: it depends on track length.
Here is a guideline:

At Lime Rock we have a contract for 4 or 5 hours.

We MAX @ 88 - we then make 4 groups of 22 @ 15 min each
x 5 sessions = lots of track time (1:15)& lots of room. (5 hours)

If we only get 66 then we make 3 groups of 22 @ 20 min each
x 4 sessions. (We then would cancel the last hour to save money for EMRA.)
Same track time(1:20) & room. (4 hours)

We strive to give maximum time per entrant
without having too many cars on track.
We also have to ensure that instructors are not
overly-hampered with student responsibilities
and we have enough instructors for the students.

Lots of guessing/modifying/stressing goes on before
each event to maximum fun for each entrant.

Would we allow 100 cars? Sure - only 3 more cars per session.

Hopefully this answers the question satisfactorily.

I would definately be in for a VIR event. I've been there once this year and it is a great track. I went with TrackDaze, and there was easily over 100 people there.

is the Glen event still on or is it just not on the website's schedule?

Also how does one go about renewing their membership? I believe mine is up.
